Mr. Dawe is an accomplished entrepreneur, financier and investor based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He currently serves as Chairman of TSX listed Pivot Technology Solutions Inc. and is a Director of Kneat.com, Inc. He has founded or co-founded a number of successful companies, including Keeper Resources Inc. (2003) which was sold for $51.6 million in 2008, and Brigus Gold Corp. (2010) which was acquired by Primero Mining Corp. in 2014 in an all share deal valued at $351 million. Mr. Dawe was a principle financier of NASDAQ & TSX listed biotechnology company IMV Inc., and led its initial public listing.
Mr. Dawe holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Memorial University (MUN), where he sits on the Advisory Board to the Faculty of Business Administration. His philanthropic activities include establishing and personally funding the annual James R. Pearcey Entrepreneurial Scholarship at MUN, and he recently funded DC Makes, a new entrepreneurship-based program at the Discovery Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Mr. Dawe, originally from Newfoundland, is also a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO), and is a fellow of the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) in Halifax.
Chief Investment Officer
Scott Gardner, CFA is the Chief Investment Officer of Torrent Capital, Ltd. He has over 20 years of investment experience, including 16 years as a portfolio manager where he has managed a multitude of investment mandates for clients all over the World. Scott recently served as the Chief Investment Officer for one of Latin America’s largest independent financial services firms. He was responsible for the company’s advisory business, which included discretionary investment management, investment strategy and research, and investment banking operations for the group. Previously, Scott was a portfolio manager for an international bank that had US$8 billion in assets under management. He was the head of global commodity investment for the company and a member of the its investment committee, which oversaw various strategies, including: global asset allocation, equities, fixed income, commodities, alternative investments and currency allocation.
During his career, Scott has been the lead or co-manager of various mutual funds, including a global natural resources fund, a global equity fund, an intermediate duration fixed income fund and a AAA-rated money market fund. Scott earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2002 and is a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Rob Randall has served as a contract CFO for a number of TSX-V listed companies over the past five years and has extensive public company financial experience. In addition to Torrent Capital, Rob also serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Sona Nanotech and Antler Gold. Rob is a CPA,CA with a background in the mining and exploration industry holding senior positions with resource-based publically traded companies including Etruscan Resources, Endeavour Mining and NovaGold Resources.
Rob graduated with a Commerce Degree from St. Mary’s University in Halifax and obtained his CA designation in 1987 with Coopers and Lybrand Chartered Accountants where he was appointed as a Principal in 1995. He is a member of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of Canada and Nova Scotia. In his charity work, Rob is the past Treasurer and Board Chair of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
